Imprint- Poem

Thrill of the chase ?

This ain’t no race !

Irrespective of time and space,

My presence, you can never erase.

Find me flowering,

In the lush gardens of my praise,

the freshness of the evening breeze

and the sweet scent of the petals

I leave in my wake.

Find me jubilant,

In the hugs that reach the heart,

the courage you’ve to restart

and the triumphant punches

you throw in the buoyant air.

Find me dancing

Across the moles on your countenance,

In smiles left on crooked teeth

of strangers you please.

Find me wanting

When you settle for less,

Then crumble in distress,

As my voice in the backdrop reproaches

that you indeed deserve the best.

Spotlight- Poem

Catapulted into frenzy!

Life snatched out of helpless hands,

Time ephemeral as shifting sands.

Flashlights and fickle fame,

I miss when I was a nobody

And life wasn’t as gaudy.

When I had four four AM friends

Instead of fevered, frantic fandom.

Solitude stubbornly evades me

What’s the world but one giant CCTV ?

Every word and deed, weighed beyond rational need;

The critics’ gleeful feed, just to watch me bleed !

Waiting like hawks to dent my image

Clawing away until I’m bent out of shape;

To force me to drown,

So they can usurp my crown !

Shielded and sure, that was the promise :

Flawed ramifications of a fallacious premise.

War Zone- Poem

I threw myself into the fray

Ready to strike, stab and slay!

In the dangerous play, much to my dismay,

My kin slaughtered; The kingdom ceded

Handed over in a gilded golden tray.

I’m cast Adrift , due to a familial rift,

Would you believe? I still have

warriors to gift and spirits to lift.

Hear the percussions of the death rattle-

Haunting reminders of the long-gone battle.

Alas. I have not a moment to mourn,

The monstrosities acrid fate has thrown.

For I have a land to rule,

And unwilling subjects to school.

Wafting away – Poem

Sure, there’s safety in the wharf

And many a peaceful sight.

In the capricious waters though,

I find the exciting invite !

There’s comfort in surety

But I’d any day take a scare.

Diving in despite the dread,

reassured that I dare.

For inertia soon becomes dull

With its slumbering sing-song lull.

Its activity that has the exciting bait,

Hooks you into journeys that can’t wait !

Anchored and happy, that’s what you say ?

I’d take Unmoored and awaiting any day.

Now I’ll follow the stars and waft into the sea,

For I hear its cacophony calling out to me.

Wisecrack in the cheese

“Did you scrape your knee in your descent from heaven ?” and its other cringeworthy variations prove to be one of the cheesiest pick up lines that has outlived generations. Once we’re done with the eye rolling, let’s take a closer look and ask ourselves, “Why can’t we live up to be the angels that the chat up line claims us to be ?”

We certainly could, in the glory days of childhood. Remember the happy abandon with which we flew kites in the terrace and built our own camp fires ?  There was also the unshakeable faith in our artistry, fashioning dolls out of clay and boats out of paper. It was a simpler time when we wore our hearts on our sleeves and stayed true to the things that spoke to us. Amidst growing up and its calculative self-centredness, the angel within us has succumbed to slumber and we leave her drowsy and blindfolded, lest she started asking uncomfortable questions.

There’s a huge irony though. Look at who you root for. We put on our best cheerleader suit for characters in virtual and actual reality, hailing as heroes those who chase outside only that which warms their insides : representatives of the ‘heavenly.’ So why don’t we take a step and join the club ? Surviving on exhibitionism and social credentials- read someone else’s reality– has become a cold cliche. True culture is to do things that make you look forward to tomorrow so much so that approval and survival are goals of the past.

The upgraded search is a hunt for the ‘spirited’ and the ‘soulful.’ Search hard and search deep within, and when you do find it, pass it on. Be vocal about the elation in being a hero, the confidence in embodying all that you believe in and the beauty of a life tailored for yourself, mush like the wondrous doll house you personalised with the undeniable power of a child. Realise that the angel is much better off when she’s wide awake, steering your way from her golden chariot, and so are YOU.

The next time someone hints that you’re angelic, do me a favour and believe them. Own it and your reality is all yours to own !

Qualm before the calm

Have you ever felt a teensy bit uneasy before a novel venture ? How to know if this apprehension will soon vanish, as the taste of success replaces shivers down the spine, or if this fear is a big red signal, your instinct cautioning you to back out before it is too late?

Its entirely natural to be nervous about the outcome as the future is never a guarantee. It is equally human to doubt whether we will be capable of investing enough to see it through, if the returns will justify our efforts and if the whole venture is worthwhile after all. If this is something that would bring you happiness with a clean conscience; if you would take it up readily assuming money and reputation were no object, then by all means go ahead with it. Embark on your next adventure with surety.

It is a different scenario if the cause of uneasiness is a queasy conscience. Don’t compromise on your moral rectitude and this means keeping away from anything where you benefit only by harming others or temporarily benefit but hurt yourself in the long run. These are huge warning ‘STOP’ signs and there’s a reason they shout out in block letters. By no means, settle for a project, a relationship, an idea that compromises your value system and plays with your self- worth.

Identifying the difference between both can be a life changer as it would keep the energy vampires at bay, leaving you with sufficient time to chase your dreams. When you are on the edge next time, unsure as hell, whether to cross a line or not, there’s a simple way of figuring out if its an experiment or a nightmare :
Ask yourself Does this limit me or liberate me?”

The last of life

The tick-tock of the zealous clock,

dictates all the strife in your life.

There’s the bedside tea, the chauffeur ride,

Yet, all you do is complain and chide.

Only in others’ pain, do you see any gain.

What’s marriage but a blemish, a stain ?

So you treat your family with utter disdain

though they prove their worth, time and again.

Remember the employees who trusted you to lead ?

They are dispensable now : paid no heed.

How could you forget the days of old,

when kindness was seen as pots of gold !

At home, a united nest, fed your zest,

at work, your superior’s praise, felt like a raise.

Your priorities made sense :

to become better and to belong.

Until the perfect picture came along

and you forgot the lyrics of the one-time song.

Won’t things change, if you were let in on this :

Today’s the last day you breathe air,

Your Final chance to be true and fair.

Would you then continue, with the hatred you spew ?

You’ll realise your follies when the

car meets a truck and the road seems askew,

Now, if only you knew, if only you knew !
