Chameleon: Poem

typewriter image pixabay.jpg

The picketing fence of
your scepticism can’t stop
the clandestine rendezvous
of my mind and feeling

As I inscribe, I unleash
on all my readers
who are free
to take my chameleon words
and colour them
with the shade of
their tinted glasses

I’m unburdened by
the absence of meaning
that has left me
The reader follows
the hint of a forgotten trail
Carves a fresh path
making meaning

Picture perfect : Poem

My glowing skin
Hides many pain patches
Carefully concealed

I’ve diminished my bruises
with a deft makeup brush

My delicate stride
Protects boils under my feet

Ringing slaps
silent under my
Silver anklets

Ridges of injustice
Remain unmasked
Under my trendy skirts

Marks of madness
Missed by neon fashions

Shivers zipped safe under
Extra large sweaters

Evidence of blue blows
Lurk under my fingernails

My red handshakes
Hide bloody burns
within intersecting palm lines

Alien thumb prints
Adorned by
Awkwardly angled bangles

The pull of power
Pinned within
Pretty rubber bands

The creases of my cuts
Spring out in my curls
Subtle resilience against soft hits

Feverish injuries
Are folded under my tongue

Salty tears stopped under contact lenses
Pink bruises pinioned under
Porcelain hugs

Muted shrieks surrender
to the rhythms of a cruel clock

My full smiles
Compensate for
Crooked teeth

The band-aid strip
Suckles my swollen wound
Silencing protest
Offering false comfort
Will you please rip it off

So I can scream

The wait: Poem

I wait at a bus stop
in summer clothes
My watch has stopped

Looking into the passengers
takes me back to an
adolescent time
blank-slated identities

I wonder if
their purses hold answers
to questions of the future

Intention is ridiculed
I need to buy a ticket
to know where I’m going

Explanation: The poet is in a state of inertia, which she likens to an adolescent state of uncertainty. Time has come to a standstill in the frozen present but comes alive in the past. She is curious as to whether her fellow passengers have successfully resolved their identity crises. Her summer clothes beam of hidden hope for the future. She intends for Action to precede Intention, which is self contradicting. Her destination will be dictated by the ticket she buys, for which she will have to break free from her inertia.

Search: Poem

I dream every night

a recurring theme of search

I run wildly across graveyards

call out constantly for no one

sit waiting by the tracks

long after trains have gone

chase after silhouettes

always within arm’s reach

never within arm’s grasp

ransack rooms

tumble clink pop

finding everything

finding nothing

a passenger on

parapets and planks

carried to every destination

but the one

awaiting my arrival

I know not

why where when what

remain questions many

answers many more

As I know not

my purpose post -pursuit

I want the search to go on

Woman: Poem

Woman.

Who are you?

Branded an egoist

when you brandish your wings

Dismissed a weakling

when you blunt your feeling

While your quiet is grace

laughter, a serene place

Your passion power

fury could melt a tower.

Woman,

why are you reduced to

lipsticks and high heels

then called a hoe?

Woman,

the word a blessed curse

but I swear not to reduce you

to attire and purse.

Woman, I took from you –

strength at your teat

hope in your arms

rapture in your eyes

surrender at your feet.

Woman,

Creator, Destructor

Break free

Oh, Goddess under man’s mercy

Tangled: Poem

Tangled image.jpg

I’m intrigued by webs

broken strings, a tangled mess

Rope me in to resolve

unveil or just understand

I’m cynical of dreams

about simple linear threads

Foggy figments of imagination

habitants of dull landscapes

Concentric circles

are tiresome but true

complex, self-aware, curious,

elaborate yet exciting

Cloak me in a cluttered quagmire

rather than

soak me in singular strands

Statue: Poem

sculpture-2410439_640.png

What tragedy befell

for your blood and veins

to turn into stone

What caught your eye

for you’ve weathered

storms and battles

to gaze unwaveringly

Did you see history unfold

long before it was written?

Did you absorb the everyday

that compounds into calamities?

Sun, rain and snow

move you no more

Perhaps, you predict nature

forsee what’s in store

How many centuries are filed

in the folder of your mind?

Have you looked through

the facades of mankind?

Your seeing eye holds secrets

unheard of, unasked for-

all but the one you seek

Will you ever wake up

to set the story straight

on humanity?
